Friday, August 21

10 am - 4 pm: Cards Back Unpack - In Front of Morris Hall

Cardinals from across campus will be on hand at the Residence Halls to welcome our new & returning students by helping them move into their rooms!

6 pm - 8 pm: BBQ at the Pool - Cardinal Village Pool

Take a break from unpacking & cool down at the pool with Residence Life staff who will be serving BBQ & cold beverages. Play basketball, sand volleyball, or wear your bathing suit & take a dip in the pool.

7 pm: LU Soccer vs SJSU - LU Soccer Complex

Get Your Red On & show your Cardinal school spirit at the first home soccer game as we play the San Jose State University Spartans. Free Kona Ice Treats & Cardinal fan giveaways. Get in free with your student ID!

Saturday, August 22

5 pm – 6 pm: Dinner with Your Orientation Leader - Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall

Join us for dinner in the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall. Get a chance to reconnect with the orientation leaders, have fun, & get any last minute questions answered.

6:30 pm - 9:30 pm: Barnes & Noble VIP Experience -Bookstore in the Setzer Student Center

Come out to the Student VIP Event at Barnes & Noble for a night of exclusive fun with your fellow first-year students. What better way to kick off your first semester than with food, free stuff, & new friends? Enjoy special discounts & take advantage of the one-on-one concierge textbook shopping. Be sure to stick around for our raffle with the chance to win some really cool items from the Bookstore.

7 pm: Laugh Out Loud Comedy Show - University Theater

Enjoy a night of side-splitting, seat-gripping, laugh-out-loud comedy from Matthew Broussard from MTV2’s Guy Code & Not Exactly News.

Sunday, August 23

1 pm: Find Your Classes - The Quad at the Mirabeau Lamar Statue

Don’t want to be the new freshman walking around on the first day of class lost with your schedule out? Then come out & let the Orientation Leaders show you around campus.

3:30 pm: New Student Convocation - McDonald Gym

This official greeting from LU’s President Evans & campus leaders will get your LU career off to the best possible start! All new students must attend.

4:30 pm: Welcome Bash Featuring the Greeks - Front Lawn of the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall

Enjoy good food, music, & games while hanging out with campus & Greek leaders. Also enjoy free custom street signs & get your caricature drawn!

Monday, August 24 - FIRST DAY OF CLASS

11 am - 2 pm: First Day of Class Photo Booth - Setzer Student Center Arbors

Capture a photo of your first day of classes as a Cardinal. Pictures will be posted on our Facebook page for you to show your family & friends.

11 am – 1 pm: Meet the Greeks BBQ - The Quad

Come out & meet members from all four Greek Councils at Lamar - IFC, MGC, NPHC, & CPC. We’ll have music, fun, & information about joining these groups. You’ll learn about the recruitment process, services opportunities, academic achievement, campus involvement, & being a student leader on campus. Here is your chance to meet our Greeks in a casual setting.

6 pm – 8 pm: Belly Rubs with the Therapy Dogs - Mary & John Gray Library

Did you have to leave a pet behind? We have the next best thing! Come visit with the therapy dogs in the library! All sorts of dogs-both big & small- will be ready for belly rubs & ball chasing.

6 pm – 8 pm: Badminton Tourney - Recreational Sports Center

Come on out for fast badminton action on the multipurpose courts in the Rec. This is a great chance to meet new & returning students & intramural student staff & to ask questions about your Rec Sports membership!

Students will sign up for teams as they arrive. Teams will be based on the number of participants that show up.

8 pm: Glow Zumba - McDonald Gym

Love Zumba or ever wanted to try? This is the perfect opportunity! Join our fitness staff in the McDonald Gym as we host Glow Zumba. Put on your 80’s workout gear & get ready to move!

Tuesday, August 25

11 am – 2 pm: LU Wireless Connect - Front Porch of the Setzer Student Center

Students will be offered assistance in connecting to the new LU wifi system. Free Giveaway!

8 pm: Lamar Alive Magician - Setzer Center Ballroom

Daniel Martin has been seen by millions on CBS, NBC, WGN, VH1, Discovery, & later this summer “Fool Us” with Penn & Teller! You’ll love his high-energy fusion of exhilarating magic, cons, & sarcastic improv. Come join us & see if you will be fooled!

7 pm - 9 pm: Back to School Bash - Baptist Student Ministry, 4602 Cheek Street

Music, food, games, dunking booth, & prizes! Come join the fun! Everyone is invited, so bring a friend or make a new one.

Wednesday, August 26

2 pm - 4pm: Fun in the Sun - The Park Behind Cardinal Village Pool

Take a break & have some fun in the sun with inflatable water slides & more.

6 pm – 7 pm: Fall Fashion Show - Sezter Student Center Ballroom

Join the Lamar Alive Student Activities Board, the Center for Career & Professional Development, & Undefined Fashion & Entertainment for a fashion show, showcasing styles that will take you from class to work & more!

7 pm – 10 pm: Summer Night S’Mores - Back Patio of the Rec Sports Center

Come hang out on the back patio of the Rec - Outdoor Pursuits has campfires, S’Mores, & fun backyard games.

6 pm – 8 pm: Dodgeball - Rec Sports Center

Come out for dodge ball games on the multipurpose courts in the Rec. Just remember the 5 D's of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!

Thursday, August 27

11 am - 1 pm: Student Organization Fair - Sezter Student Center Arbors

The Student Org Fair is your first & best place for new Cardinals to meet student organizations on campus as they showcase what they have to offer. Over 200 organizations, programs, & offices will be on hand to meet new & returning students. We encourage everyone to make the most of their college experience by getting involved on campus. Whether it’s academic, cultural, service sports, or Greek, the benefits of joining a student organization are numerous & there’s definitely an organization for you!

6 pm: Movie Night: Pitch Perfect 2 PLUS Free Raising Cane’s! - Setzer Student Center Ballroom

We’re eating free food & watching the Barden Bellas perform again in Pitch Perfect 2. Did we mention free Raising Canes?

Friday, August 28

4 pm - 6 pm: Bubble Soccer - Intramural Fields at Simmons Blvd. & Gilligan Ave.

Come find out what Bubble Soccer is, try out your skills, or just have fun hanging out.

7 pm: LU Volleyball vs UA-B - McDonald Gym

Watch the Lady Cardinal Volleyball team take on the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers. Get in free with your student ID!

7 pm: LU Soccer vs TSU - LU Soccer Complex

Support Lady Cardinal Soccer as they take on the Texas Southern University Lady Tigers. Come early & wear RED. The first 100 students to arrive will receive a free t-shirt. Get in free with your student ID!

Saturday, August 29

8 am: Cardinals Color Run/Walk 5K - Montagne Center Parking Lot

Join the movement & participate in the Color Run around Lamar’s campus. The first 200 students to register for the Color Run on OrgSync will receive a free t-shirt. Visit lamar.edu/orgsync to sign up.

1 pm: LU Volleyball vs Marist - McDonald Gym

Support your Lady Cardinal Volleyball team as they take on the Marist Red Foxes. Get in free with your student ID!

3 pm - 5 pm: Painting with a Twist - Sezter Student Center Ballroom

Design a unique piece of artwork for your Res Hall room or house with the help of a few artists guiding you step by step.

Sunday, August 30

3 pm - 5 pm: Roller Rave! - Setzer Student Center Ballroom

A roller skating dance party featuring all the fun of skating alongside the hottest DJ’s playing today’s hits. Break out your glow sticks & best party fashion for a high-energy, modern day RAVE! We rock while you roll!

5 pm: LU Soccer vs LSU-A – LU Soccer Complex

Your Lady Cardinal Soccer team takes the field again, this time against the LSU-Alexandria Generals. Get in free with your student ID!

Monday, August 31

11 am - 1 pm: Religious Orgs Info Session - The Quad

Come learn more about religious organization on campus & what they have to offer.

2 pm - 4 pm: Ultimate Game Truck - Front Lawn of the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall

Do you like video games? Well, this is the event for you! In the Ultimate Game Truck, you can play all the video games you can think of.

6 pm – 8 pm: Night of Worship - Front Lawn of the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall

Join LU’s religious student orgs for a night of worship.

6 pm – 8 pm: Game Room Night - Rec Sports Center

Stop by the Rec Center Media Room for pool, air hockey, shuffleboard, foosball, & so much more!

Tuesday, September 1

4 pm - 6 pm: Welcome Back Reception for Study Abroad Students - 6th Floor of the Library

Returning Study Abroad students are invited to share memories & pics of their trips. Find out how to stay involved with Global Lamar activities on & off campus, & get tips on how to highlight your international experience to employers & graduate programs. The entrance "fee" is a special item from your trip to share with the group. Food is provided!

6 pm – 8 pm: My Ana-Condom Don't Want None Unless You Got One, Hon! Sex Talk 101 - Setzer Center Ballroom

Join Residence Life & the Student Health Center for the 411 on sex & how to stay safe now that you’re in college.

8 pm - 10 pm: Movie on the Field: Jurassic World - Provost Umphrey Stadium

Want to turn your dreams of studying abroad into a reality? Come to this info session hosted by the Director of Study Abroad! He'll give you an overview of your options & the steps you'll need to take once you choose your program.

9 pm - 11 pm: Ultimate Glow Frisbee – The Quad

Meet the Release student org & enjoy a night of ultimate glow frisbee.

Thursday, September 3

10 am - 1 pm: Volunteer Opportunity Fair - Setzer Center Arbors

Meet our Beaumont community partners & learn about the services each organization provides. Get involved & give back to the local, regional, & even global community.

11 am - 1 pm: Passport Info Table - Setzer Center Arbors

Pick up handouts about upcoming study abroad programs & study abroad scholarships, plus learn how to apply for your passport!

11 am - 2 pm: Cardinal Kick-Off - Education First Credit Union, 4695 Rolfe Christopher Drive

Enjoy fun, games, food, giveaways, & Lamar Spirit as we kick off the school year at Education First Credit Union.

6 pm - 8 pm: Rivalry Game Show with SGA - University Theater

This fast-paced rivalry game show challenges you in the areas of education, discipline, guts, & all-out willingness to have some fun. Come show your stuff & hang out with your Student Government Association.

Friday, September 4

2 pm: Games, Tours, & More - Mary & John Gray Library

Explore the Library through games & tours to learn about the services we have to offer. Enjoy free treats, meet members of the Library faculty & staff, & collect free giveaways.

8 pm: Glow Rage - Setzer Center/Rec Center Parking Lot

What’s Glow Rage? Only the ultimate paint party experience! The PaintU tour is hitting Beaumont for LU’s first campus Paint Party! Wear white & be ready to get covered in neon glow paint while dancing to some of today's greatest hits!

Saturday, September 5

5 pm: Cardinal Tailgate - Provost Umphrey Stadium

It’s tailgating time! Pre-game festivities include free food, music, & outdoor games.

7 pm: LU Football vs Bacone College - Provost Umphrey Stadium

Are you ready, Cardinal Nation? Arrive early, wearing red, and get LOUD at the season’s first football game against the Bacone College warriors! Enjoy live music from 5 pm - 6:30 pm in the Student Tailgating area north of the Montagne Center. Free t-shirts for students!
